Left 4 Dead - Hands-on Preview

Left4Dead411.com just posted a great write up of their Hands-on experience with 4-player co-op zombie masterpiece Left 4 Dead over at Valve Studios.

I posted the trailer for this zombie invasion heaven game a while back and am taking any chance I can get to hype it up, as I for one am beyond stoked for this game. For starters, its a Co-op only game, which is awesome because tell me one person who would be fighting solo in a zombie invasion.

Second; Its a zombie game…. Alright, I don’t have a lot of solid stuff to justify my hype, but after you read this rather lengthy preview I think you’ll see exactly why I’m so hyped for this game.

Some Highlights:

Auto-Voice overs. If you’re reloading your character automatically yells out ‘RELOADING!’ to alert the other players. Same goes for when you spot a ‘Boss’ zombie, and other helpful instances. I think this is a great feature, especially in a co-op game that relies so heavily on teamwork.

The Director. Apparently no triggers are scripted into the game, meaning the player doesn’t trip triggers which start scripted sequences, so the same scenarios will never play out the same at any time. Theres an AI director which takes many variables into account to decide when, where, how, and how many zombies will attack you throughout the missions. It creates for game play to change constantly and to be unique everytime. I’ve seen it before, but its always impressive especially in a game like this where the paranoia of the situation is key to setting the mood.

User controlled Zombies. This preview was from the survivor point of view only, but soon they will have a write up of what its like when you’re infected (a zombie). I remember how cool it was back in the day on Resident Evil: Outbreak when you could play online with Playstation 2, and that was a turd. I can’t wait to see what you can do when you can actually play as a zombie and not just walk around slowly for a little bit then die. Should prove for some awesome gameplay.
