Playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

As you can tell from my gamercard, I’ve recently been getting the shit kicked out of me on Veteran by some pissed off ultra-nationalists and their henchmen all across the globe in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
From the amount of messages and emails I’ve been receiving about it, I figured I’d might as well make a post and let you all in on exactly what this means in terms of where we are in development. Most of you are familiar with the industry verbiage of “Going Gold”, which essentially means everything that needs to be done is done, and all you’re waiting on is printing the discs and shipping them to retail. Well, we’re not exactly there yet. Trust me, when we are, you’ll know as the press releases will be a’flowin.
We’re still testing Single Player and using beta feedback to fine tune the multiplayer experience via tweaks of spawn logic, optimizing netcode on the backend, tweaking matchmaking and game performance now that we see how it will handle with hundreds of thousands of players on at once. Keep in mind that we can tweak and use your feedback for the multiplayer portion of the game all the way to ship, and even after launch via Patches. So keep your beta feedback coming, it’s not going to waste simply because we’re putting the polishing details on Single Player. A lot of what we change in Multiplayer is able to be done on the backend here at the studio.
Speaking of which, this past week has been one of the most active on the beta to date, with hundreds of thousands of players logging on and playing the beta from all of the world. Sadly there hasn’t been an Xbox Live Top Ten list posted since the beta has really kicked off, so we can’t see how we’re comparing with some of the retail titles on live, but from the numbers we’re showing I’d say we’re fighting the good fight on the charts.
In Short: We’re not gold yet, but we’re working on it. We’ve already implemented a lot of changes to multiplayer based on Beta Feedback, including the addition of an entirely new Control Scheme to the game titled the ‘N0M4AD’ [story here], and will continue to be tweaking it well past launch based on community input now and when it hits retail. As there’s a shit load more to the game’s MP portion than whats just in the beta, so I’m sure you guys are going to have plenty of feedback to come when we launch.
